what happened next
Barrett's mental health very much contributed to his being replaced by David Gilmour. Pink Floyd went on to become one of the world's biggest stadium bands and the classic line up split in 1981 when Wright was sacked from the band. The remaining trio went their separate ways in 1983 amid much acrimony. Gilmour, Mason and a reinstated Wright reconvened and carried the baton through until the Division Bell album and tour in 1994. A minor miracle happened in 2005 when the classic line up reunited to perform at Live 8 effectively closing the book on the band. Both Gilmour and Waters continue to lead successful solo careers
