Roger Ruskin Spear,
writing for the Friars Aylesbury website in 2009 said:
Nice site.
Louise Longson
has dug you out of the internet for us. Yes indeed I remember Friars with
affection. Monday 1st June with Wishbone Ash was near as dammit my
first "real" gig through an agent (Terry King @ £30!). So thanks to the
"visionary" at Friars for the booking! I also remember a later gig where
the compere made a remark about my "long term residency" so that must
have been Friars too.

Roger Ruskin Spear sent us his diary
entry (in 2009) from this 1970 gig where he was paid the princely sum of £30!
Here is my diary for 1970
(dentist on Tuesday!) Keep up the good work.

Mick was a Friars regular
and these days seems to be living in Northern Ireland. Seems uncontactable
which is a pity...unless you know better of course.
Roger Ruskin Spear appeared
at Friars again at the
1979 Xmas Party.
Further details below from Louise Longson:
Roger used to be an
art lecturer (3-D Design) at Chelsea Art College, but retired a few
years ago. Now, he is actively performing once again with Three Bonzos
and a Piano (www.threebonzosandapiano.co.uk),
which includes former Bonzos Rodney Slater and Sam Spoons
Les Payne is a local legend
and his appearances at Friars must come close to being the most by a
single performer. In addition to listed solo appearances, Les was also
part of Chameleon who made many appearances in the early days and also in
Phase 3 with Mainland
