'It
was October (30th) before I was to play again at Aylesbury and by then the
venue was known simply as "Friars". I shared the bill this time with a
band called "Stone Ground". My former musicians had left to form Camel and
I'd recruited a new "semi-accoustic" line-up with Chas Cronk and Ernie
Hayes from the Strawbs playing bass and guitar respectively. The audience
was one of the most attentive I played to in England. It was then the time
of the "singer/songwriter" and I remember chatting to the audience as if
it were my front living room, then playing a slow version of Buddy Holly's
"Everyday" which went down a storm. The "Friars" audience were
knowledgable and very appreciative. It was a pleasure playing for them.
I'm not sure whether Dave (Stopps) paid me more money that time though!'
