Groundhogs  have been going since 1963 and Tony McPhee's Groundhogs still gig as at 2013. They also came back to Friars in 2009 and became the first band in 25 years to be introduced onto the Friars stage

Of this line up, Steve Rye died in 1992.

Les Payne is a local legend and made many appearances at Friars.In addition to listed solo appearances, Les was also part of Chameleon who made many appearances in the early days and also in Phase 3 with Mainland
