memories
Jim McCarty: Friars was a good "old fashioned" gig that hadn't changed much since the 60`s. If I remember by 1976 (Illusion gigs) there weren't many of those venues left. There were either little clubs or huge venues. Friars always had that sort of "hippie" vibe. Quite different to the punk thing happening at the time

odds and trivia

what happened?
Renaissance:  This version of Renaissance completely fizzled out by 1972 - 73, the then current Renaissance having no original members. The original members reformed in 1977 as Illusion (who played Friars twice) as the new Renaissance was well established. All original members bar Keith Relf, who died in 1976, having been tragically electrocuted playing his guitar at home. McCarty and Cennamo later joined up as Stairway, last releasing material in 1995
